Foodpanda, the food delivery service operated by Germany-based Delivery Hero, has recently announced that it will cease operations in Thailand on May 23, 2025, after 13 years of service in the food delivery market. This decision is said to be part of Delivery Hero's strategic move to focus on regions within the Asia-Pacific where they foresee better returns. Despite the shutdown, the company's regional team based in Thailand will continue its operations as usual (Reuters, 2025).
The company communicated this decision to its users via email or a notification via their official application, expressing gratitude for their support over the years and informing them of the service discontinuation date about the shutdown timeline and guidance for users regarding their accounts and any outstanding orders.

This move might come in the wake of many previous challenges faced by Foodpanda in Thailand, such as, in 2021, the company faced significant backlash after a social media post threatened to terminate a delivery rider involved in pro-democracy protests, labeling the act as "terrorism."
This incident led to widespread calls for a boycott, with the hashtag #แบนfoodpanda (#BanFoodpanda) trending on Thai Twitter and reports of users deleting their accounts (Matichon Online, 2021).
